Leverage for Growth Podcast

Episode 2: What Got You Here Wont Get You There

Episode Date:Feb 1, 2023

Jesse P. Gilmore, founder of Niche In Control and creator of Leverage for Growth, reflects on his transformation in the fourth quarter of last year. He was initially a solo entrepreneur coaching business and sold out of all of his one-on-one spots in the first quarter of 2022. In the second quarter of 2022, he hired an operations manager and created a mastermind alliance for agency owners to scale their business using leverage for growth. However, in the fourth quarter of 2022, Jesse struggled to let go of old ways of working, leading to stagnation in his business and increasing chaos. Jesse realized he had to apply the leverage for growth method to his own business and started to act like a CEO, creating a vision, goals, metrics, alignment, meeting structure, and standard operating procedures. He came to the realization that in order to grow, he had to go through a transformation and change his role, especially when transitioning from six figures to seven figures.

You are now listening to Leverage for Growth. Hey everybody. This is Jesse Gilmore, founder of Niche in Control, and creator of Leverage for Growth. Welcome to the Daily Leverage edition. Today’s topic is this. Take care of you before taking care of others. Sit back, relax, and welcome to today’s daily Leverage.

So I’m in the middle of a 10 hour mastermind workshop where I’m investing in myself. And this topic about taking care of myself before I can take care of others is ultimately what I’ve been relearning over the last 24 hours. Yesterday I had a lot of sales calls and business meetings and client meetings and hiring new team members, and I ended up skipping lunch.

I’m not sure if this has happened to you before, but what ended up happening was is that I wasn’t fueling my body correctly, and this led to me showing up in a way that I didn’t want to for my son. I really just wasn’t taking care of myself, and so it was a lot harder for me to take care of others. And so from this whole kind of lesson, I realized that.

If I would’ve just taken like 10 minutes even just to have lunch then I would be setting myself up for being in a place where I could be proud of the way that I show up. And this shows up in a lot of different areas when a lot of times as entrepreneurs we’re focused on growing the business or doing different things that are very external, like keeping up with the news or making sure that you’re accessible via email.

And a lot of times it’s just kind of. You, you have to realize that you’re kind of like on this airplane, and if the airplane was to go down, what’s the first thing you have to do? You put on an oxygen mask for yourself and so that way you can actually help others, so you gotta take care of yourself beforehand.

and what I’ve noticed, you know, talking with agency owners and a lot of clients, and this is a topic that people wrestle with, you know, there’s a lot of different stories about, you know, needing to get to the business to do a certain thing or fulfilling a certain role, and you get kind of caught up in things that are not necessarily based around how you feel and what you actually need.

And a lot of times you just focus on the external. . And this actually, this was brought up again in our alliance Mastermind for agency owners. Earlier today when we were talking about morning routines. And one of our clients explained that when she got up for the day, she started focusing on checking emails or checking in the news.

And what I asked her to do was just simply replace that which, which one happens first. So putting the things that are external, two hours after you wake up and focus the first two hours on you and your progress and where. . And this is just another example of how important it actually is for us to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others.

And if we don’t take care of ourselves, it’s just difficult to do what you wanna do for others a long time. So now it is time for the daily leverage. Where in your world, whether it’s in your life or your business, have you been taking care of others at the expense of you taking care of your. , is it in your life with your health and body?

Is it with your life and your spirituality and self-direction? Is it in your relationships with your spouse, partner, or kids? Is it in your business and finances or team? And once you’ve located where you’ve been neglecting yourself, ask yourself this. What are you willing and able to do about it? That is the end of daily leverage, and this is Jesse P.
