But we have the power to make choices and take control of our lives. In this episode, Jesse shares a personal anecdote about teaching his son the power of choices and the consequences of our actions.

With his 90/10 principle, Jesse reminds us that 10% of things happen to us, but 90% of how we respond is what truly matters. As an agency owner, it's crucial to lead by example and take control of our actions and their consequences.

In this Daily Leverage episode, Jesse challenges listeners to reflect on the areas of their life where they've been making choices based on external factors. Whether it's in their health, spirituality, relationships, or business, Jesse encourages listeners to take action today and make the necessary changes to live their best life.

You are now listening to Leverage for Growth. Hey everybody this is Jesse P. Gilmore founder of Niche in Control and creator of the Leverage for Growth, welcome to the daily leverage edition.
Today’s topic is this “Having Agency Over Your Life”. Sit back, relax and welcome to today’s daily leverage.

So this morning, I was teaching my 5 year old son the power of choices and that we have the power to choose our actions

For the last few days, both kids have been fighting a cold and have been inside most of the time

Having a 5 year old son and an almost 3 year old daughter inside with each other for multiple days straight is going to lead towards getting on each others nerves and fighting from time to time

This morning was the moment where my son wanted nothing to do with his sister

So they kept fighting with each other and I had to have a talk to him as a father about the choices he is making

And that he has the choice to make different choices going forward

That things happen

Mistakes are made

It is what we do with the things that happen is what truly matters

It is what we decide to do with those situations that matters

One of my earliest mentors stated that 10% of things happen to us, it is the 90% of what we do with what happens to us that makes all the difference

I see this in society all the time

When someone is responding to our LinkedIn polls about what it takes to have a successful company and instead of the choices given, they respond that certain people have more opportunities than others

When I talk with someone about their business and where they want to go, and they talk about all the reasons why they can’t do it or it is not reasonable

We are constantly putting limits on what we can do based on what we believe and what we are willing to do

It all comes back down to a choice

A choice to choose differently

A choice to rise

A choice to become who you aspire to be

A choice to let go of the past and embrace a new future

A choice to step into a new version of yourself that decides to gain agency over their life

A choice to wake up and stand for something you believe in

A choice to course correct and stay aligned with your vision, your values, your life direction

Sense of agency refers to the feeling of control over actions and their consequences

As an agency owner, you are set to lead by example as someone that has a sense of agency and feeling of control over your actions and their consequences

Time to lead by example

Why is this important?

Many times as entrepreneurs, we see the majority of people giving up their choice to direct their own life over to the circumstances of the world, society, government and big business

We see many people deciding to be a victim of circumstance and desiring to be rescued

Yet we know that as an entrepreneur, we have chosen a different path

A path of having agency over our life and the choices we make

If in the past, we have fallen into a cycle of making decisions that are not in alignment with our purpose, our vision, our plan, that we can choose to choose differently going forward

That we can let go of the past in order to embrace a new future

That we can regain control of our lives and direct it towards the life we want to live

That 10% of things happen to us and 90% is based on what we do with it

Today we can choose differently

Now it is time for daily leverage.

Where in your world whether in your life or business, have you been making choices based on external factors that are leading you towards a life that you don’t want? Or have you made choices based on what others have told you rather than what you know in your heart to be true?

Is it in your life with your health or body?

Is it in your life with your spirituality or self-direction?

Is it in your relationships with your spouse, partner or kids?

Is it in your business or finances or team?

Once you have located where you have been making choices that you know you need to change in order to live your best life.

My question to you is this…

What are you willing and able to do about it today?
