You are now listening to Leverage for Growth. Hey everybody this is Jesse P. Gilmore founder of Niche in Control and creator of the Leverage for Growth, welcome to the daily leverage edition.
Today’s topic is this “Mindset: Journey vs. Destination”. Sit back, relax and welcome to today’s daily leverage.
So this morning, I was doing my morning routine of stacking and reflecting on the shift in mindset that happens when the focus is on the journey rather than the destination.
When we are focused on the destination of our goals, let’s just say scaling to $2M in revenue this year, we focus on the numbers
We focus on the gap of where we are and where we want to be
Let’s say that this year so far you have only brought in $100k
When your mindset is focused on the destination, you see the gap of $1.9M and you feel frantic
You quickly do the math and realize that you are months behind and it causes you to focus on whatever is needed to start bringing in cash
The focus is on what you want to have
Not on what you have to become
The focus on the destination makes it so that your interactions with others are focused on what they can give you to close the gap
Your conversations become shallow and it leads towards a lack of real connection
Lack of trust
Lack of collaboration
Which all lead towards the destination feeling farther and farther away from your ability to achieve it
On the contrary
If you were to shift your focus towards falling in love with the journey that you are on
You still have a destination in mind
However, you understand that it is a journey
Nothing happens outside of the here and now
When you fall in love with the journey and pay close attention to the present moment
There is a sense of presence
The conversations with others are deeper
You allow the conversations to go where they may
You allow opportunities to come into your world that you wouldn’t have otherwise seen if you were solely focused on the outcome
When you fall in love with the journey, you see that every moment is a moment that can provide you answers, opportunities, and the gift of bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to go
However, it may not be the same journey path that you had originally planned
Plans change
They adapt
You should to
When you embrace the fact that the “how” is being figured out every day and with consistent focus on who you are becoming in the moment
How your journey is evolving and expanding to allow your destination to happen naturally
By becoming who you are meant to be in the moment
You realize that how you look at the road ahead matters
That you don’t always have to have all of the answers ahead of time
You just need to trust and have faith that the journey you are on
That moment by moment, you are being given a gift and it is up to you to see that gift and seize the day
That the destination and achievement will take care of itself
Continuing to align yourself to what you want matters but the destination is not as important as the journey itself
Why is this important?
Many times as entrepreneurs, we focus on our goals in business
The $2M in revenue this year
We talk about the destination, we get consumed by the destination
We get mad when we don’t close a sale or make a monetary gain towards that destination
We feel overwhelming joy when we make a sale
This high and low based on the destination makes us too attached to the outcome
To allow the journey to take us towards the destination naturally
In our goal setting workshops with Alliance mastermind members, we focus on who we would need to become in order to do and have what we want naturally
This process allows us to fall in love with the journey towards the achievements that we want to achieve
The key is to fall in love with the journey that you are on and continue to align with the destination in your actions on a moment to moment basis
By falling in love with your journey, you begin to become the person that arrives at the destination naturally
Now it is time for daily leverage.
Where in your world whether in your life or business, have you been too focused on the destination and not falling in love with the journey?
Is it in your life with your health or body?
Is it in your life with your spirituality or self-direction?
Is it in your relationships with your spouse, partner or kids?
Is it in your business or finances or team?
Once you have located where you have been focused on the destination and you know what you need to change.
My question to you is this…
What are you willing and able to do about it today?
