You are now listening to Leverage for Growth. Hey everybody this is Jesse P. Gilmore founder of Niche in Control and creator of the Leverage for Growth, welcome to the daily leverage edition.
Today’s topic is this “How Taking Breaks Can Transform Your Life and Business”. Sit back, relax and welcome to today’s daily leverage.
So this morning, I was doing my morning routine of stacking and reflecting on this last week of the quarter and my conscious decision to have a break.
There is a natural cycle that we must embrace each quarter
People and teams can go on sprints for a total of 90 days
Then they need a rest
I am no different
I am working towards what is called a 12 week year
Where you work hard for 12 weeks and take the 13th week off to reset and recenter before another 12 weeks
I had planned that this year
However, we had moved our family vacation to May and one of our weeks off will be with the birth of our third child at the end of June
So I did not get the 13th week off this quarter
Instead of having it off, I started to do less
Spend more time with myself
Without as many expectations of my output
Being okay with not getting everything done for the week
Having grace with myself and paving the way for next quarter
This means getting more sleep
Taking afternoon naps with the kids
Watching family movies
Planning for the next quarter in all areas
Reassessing where I am today and where I am committed to being tomorrow
Allowing myself to simply be
To accept where I am today
To love the journey that I am on
Even to take a break from this daily habit of daily leverage episodes
So that I can come back and appreciate the processes and habits that allow me to be in power each day
To come back with a new outlook
A new perspective
A new sense of excitement for the things to come
There is a sense of self-love that is needed and comes from allowing yourself to reset and recenter
Whether that is at the end of a quarter, the end of the month, week or day
It doesn’t matter how
It just matters that it happens
We live in a world that is constantly focused on doing more
We must make a conscious choice to take a break
To reset
To recenter ourselves
So that we can consciously choose the direction of our life and business
Now that I have reset and recentered
I have more excitement for the things to come
And I can’t wait to continue to share the excitement with you
Why is this important?
Many times as entrepreneurs, we get caught up in doing more
Doing more things, tasks, and trying to complete a never ending to do list
When the true value in what we are doing is based on how we show up
We have to remind ourselves that we are human
We have needs
We not a robot
We aren’t meant to be
We have feelings
We have emotions
We have desires
We are human
This requires us to take time to be human
We are human beings
Not human doings
That means that our best life is lived by being who we are in this moment
No narrative
No story line
Not being between where we are and where we want to be
But simply being ourselves in this moment
Sharing ourselves with others
Connecting with others on a human level
That is what you need
That is what others need
To simply be the best human being that you can be
That means that you must take time for yourself to reset and recenter
Now it is time for daily leverage.
Where in your world whether in your life or business, have you been focusing on continuously doing more without a break?
Is it in your life with your health or body?
Is it in your life with your spirituality or self-direction?
Is it in your relationships with your spouse, partner or kids?
Is it in your business or finances or team?
Once you have located where you have been focusing on doing more and have not given yourself a break and you know what you need to change.
My question to you is this…
What are you willing and able to do about it today?
That is the end of our daily leverage. This is Jesse P. Gilmore and you have been listening to the Leverage for Growth podcast.
