Jesse P Gilmore shares his personal experience of setting an "impossible" goal of recording and releasing 200 episodes of the Leverage for Growth podcast by the end of the year, and how he will be able to exceed this goal by focusing on who he needed to become to achieve it. Jesse emphasizes the importance of setting targets and then asking yourself who you need to become in order to exceed them naturally. He encourages listeners to locate where they have been lacking targets or limiting themselves based on the targets they set and take action to change it.

You are now listening to Leverage for Growth. Hey everybody this is Jesse P. Gilmore founder of Niche in Control and creator of the Leverage for Growth, welcome to the daily leverage edition.
Today’s topic is this “Exceed your own expectations”. Sit back, relax and welcome to today’s daily leverage.
So this morning, I was doing my morning routine of stacking and reflecting on a goal that I had set at the beginning of the year with the Leverage for Growth podcast.
Before I get into it, I will should tell you a bit more context
In 2018, I was taught and trained on how to create and live a challenge based lifestyle
What this means is that every year, I go through a process of creating powerful goals that are set as quarterly challenges in every area of my life
Body
Being
Balance
Business
I walk through a series of steps so that I am clear on where I am today, what I want in each area, setting what would be considered an “impossible” goal for the year, and then breaking it down into components and executing on the actions needed to achieve the impossible goal
Every week, I assess where I am in each category in relation to where I want to be by the end of the year, the quarter and the month
This allows me to course correct when needed and focus on results
The overall question that I assess my progress is based on who would I need to become in order to achieve my goals naturally
It is not just about doing more, it is about becoming more
The Be Do Have Model in action
This is what we teach our clients to do as well
So one of my 16 impossible goals this year was set to launch, record and release 200 episodes of the Leverage for Growth podcast by the end of the year
The first month, I focused on the vision of the podcast, the structure of how I wanted it, the name and the tech stack I would need
The second month, I began recording episodes daily
After I got about 40 under my belt, I was ready to expand the episodes to include the agency leverage episodes
Once we let 6- and 7-figure agency owners know what we were doing, we got flooded with demand and interest in being a podcast guest
Every week now, we are recording 7-9 agency leverage episodes and 7 daily leverage episodes
What was considered impossible only 3 months ago, is now considered not only possible but a low target
If you notice, it is not about what I am doing
It is about who I am becoming
I am purposefully exceeding my own expectations
I set a target
I don’t hold myself to only hitting the target
I become the person that exceeds the target
Exceeding my own expectations
Why is this important?
Many times as entrepreneurs, we limit ourselves to the target we set
We may have a goal of hitting $2M in revenue by the end of the year
So we break down the goal into manageable pieces and focus on what we would need to do in order to achieve the goal
Many times we are unable to hit the goal and then we make excuses as to why we did not accomplish what we set out to
When we are so focused on what we want to have and what we need to do in order to get there, we are placing the question of who we are becoming at the end of the equation
We believe that we will become the person we aspire to be when we have what we want and did the things to get what we want
This is backwards
We must set targets
Then ask ourselves who we would need to become in order to exceed the target naturally
Then we are working from the core of who we are becoming
We are able to make the micro decisions necessary to stay aligned to what we want
We focus internally
When we do so, we are able to look at impossible targets as a challenge
A challenge that can become possible
If we focus on who we would need to become in order to achieve and exceed our own expectations
There is no sense in waiting or limiting our own capabilities
Set targets
Become who you need to become
Then exceed your own expectations
And rise to the next level of who you are meant to be
Now it is time for daily leverage.
Where in your world whether in your life or business, have you been lacking targets or limiting yourself based on the target you set?
Is it in your life with your health or body?
Is it in your life with your spirituality or self-direction?
Is it in your relationships with your spouse, partner or kids?
Is it in your business or finances or team?
Once you have located where you have been lacking targets or limiting yourself based on the targets you set and you know what you need to change.
My question to you is this…
What are you willing and able to do about it today?
That is the end of our daily leverage. This is Jesse P. Gilmore and you have been listening to the Leverage for Growth podcast.
