You are now listening to Leverage for Growth. Hey everybody, this is Jesse P. Gilmore, founder of Niche in Control and creator of Leverage for Growth. Welcome to the Daily Leverage Edition. Today’s topic is this, abundance in progress, shattering the comparison trap. Sit back, relax, and welcome to today’s Daily Leverage. So we’ve all heard the phrase, comparison is the thief of joy. But what if instead of comparing ourselves to an ever moving ideal, we focus on our progress? Entrepreneurial coach, Dan Sullivan, invites us to embrace this mindset shift. So let’s dive into why focusing on progress over comparison is the pathway to fulfillment and an abundance mindset. So let’s start with the psychology of comparison and progress. The research from the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology reveals that comparison can create feelings of inadequacy while focusing on personal progress. fosters a sense of achievement and satisfaction. Our mind finds fulfillment in growth and evolution, not in chasing this elusive horizon. Dan Sullivan beautifully compares our ideals to horizon. As we move towards it, it moves too. Our ideals are important to set a direction, but the joy comes from the journey, the progress that we make, not from catching the horizon. And success doesn’t come from mirroring someone else’s path. It comes from marking our progress, no matter how small. A study from the Harvard Business Review found that employees who track their progress report higher levels of satisfaction and productivity. And comparison often kind of triggers this scarcity mindset, a feeling as though we’re not enough. On the other hand, acknowledging progress fosters an abundance mindset. Abundance is about recognizing and appreciating what we have and the progress that we’re making. So let’s apply this to our other domains, body, being, balance, and business. For body, track your progress in fitness. Celebrate improvements on your stamina, your strength, or flexibility, rather than comparing your body to an unrealistic ideal. For being, acknowledge your personal growth. Celebrate new things, like learning new things, and and overcoming challenges, instead of comparing yourself to others. And for balance, celebrate the harmony that you have achieved in your life, instead of striving for a picture perfect balance that doesn’t exist. And for business, mark your company’s progress. Celebrate every new client, every new project that got completed, or every new milestone that’s hit. Don’t compare your company’s chapter three to someone else’s chapter 20. So remember that fulfillment doesn’t come from comparing ourselves to an ever moving horizon. It comes from recognizing and celebrating our progress. So it’s time to shift our focus from comparison to progress and from scarcity to abundance. So now it’s time for the daily leverage. So where in your world, whether in your life or business, have you been focusing on this comparison as opposed to your progress? Is it in your life with your health and body? Is it in your life with your spirituality or self-direction? Is it in your relationships with your spouse, partner, or kids? Is it in your business, finances, or team? And when you’ve located where you’ve been comparing yourself to others as opposed to focusing on your progress, and you know what you need to change, my question to you is this. What are you willing and able to do about it today? That is the end of the Daily Leverage. This is Jesse P. Gilmore. You’ve been listening to Leverage for Growth Podcast.
