You are now listening to Leverage for Growth. Hey everybody, this is Jesse P. Gilmore, founder of Niche in Control, creator of Leverage for Growth, and the author of The Agency Owner’s Guide to Freedom, which you can find at nicheincontrol.com slash book. Welcome to the Daily Leverage Edition. Today’s topic is this, behind the scenes of The Agency Owner’s Guide to Freedom. Sit back, relax, and welcome to today’s Daily Leverage. So, I have been working on a book for quite some time.
And right at this day, we are nine days. By the time this releases, it’ll be eight days away from our book launch. And there is an inspiration that I had at the beginning of this year when I created this impossible game of becoming a professional author, you know, and actually having my published book. And it came from this understanding that I have learned things over the last 18 years that I wish I would have known when I first started.
And the initial inspiration of really reaching a million people came from this idea during a meditation where I saw myself on top of a mountain. And that was the achievement of reaching over a million people with this message. And it’s taking this 18 years of being an entrepreneur, having both successful, popular, and failed businesses, and also corporate lessons where
I basically learned in corporate America what I wish I would have known in my entrepreneurial adventures. And I started to tailor it towards agency owners because I started working with them and getting really good results with some of our clients, just applying the frameworks that I had learned. And at the beginning of this year, when I launched the podcast in January, I started on this writing of the book. And I actually created the first draft,
really rough draft in the beginning of February. And if you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll remember that some of our earlier episodes of the podcast were based around creating that first draft. But what I found was is that it’s actually very challenging to take even training programs and things that we can do with video and different tutorials and things like that, which we’re really good at. It was hard to…
Jesse (02:29.614)
take that information, that transforming of the rich complex insights into a concise, tangible medium through a book. And so I started to create a first draft and then from there, I got stuck in kind of an analysis paralysis with the self-editing. I’m not an editor, I’m more of a strategic person, and so it was really hard for me to try to make this content as concise as possible.
And at the time that I was struggling to get the first draft edited towards, you know, actually a tangible medium that is more reader focused, Pam Neely reached out to me with a loom video and said, you know, hey, I would love to help you with your book. Let’s have a chat. And through having a conversation with Pam, I realized that she was exactly what I needed. I had a lot of the subject knowledge.
an understanding of what I wanted to accomplish, had a vision of what I wanted to accomplish, but didn’t necessarily know how to get there with writing and releasing the book. And Pam’s expertise is really based around everything that is not mine. So it was a really good partnership right from the get-go. And so we started to plan this understanding that by the end of this year, we would release the agency owner’s guide to freedom. And we would get this
book to be reader first, meaning it’s like a conversation back and forth about, you know, some of the challenges that people face and how you overcome them, different ways of looking at, you know, the challenge based around things like delegation and perfectionism. And the ways that you contribute towards your business change as your business grows. And a lot of times people hold on to different roles. And we made it to where it…
could be very concise and have what’s called a through line narrative. So the understanding of the current self, or what’s the three selves? Current self, future self, and becoming self. And if you’re not familiar with these terms, you can check out our case study video at nitchandcontrol.com slash case study. In the first about six minutes or so, I described this three selves concept. We use this through line narrative to create an understanding of how
Jesse (04:53.81)
your transformation, the things that happen as your business grows and you transform, basically have both business expansion and self-actualization are directly correlated. So being able to understand that is really what the main part of the book is. And we had to go through a series of iterative processes to refine the book. And so we brought in beta readers in order for us to get some initial feedback.
based around version three of this massive manuscript. And from their feedback, we realized where people got stuck, where it was confusing, and so we made another shift. And then we did another beta reader round again and then made another shift. Then we had a copywriter come in and make another shift. And we’ve gone through quite a few revisions of this book and getting it ready to be.
reader-centric. My main goal is that it’s not all about me, although there is a chapter about my understanding and my transformation using the program and coming up with the program. But mostly it’s based around how can you get into action? I’ve never wanted to make like a theoretical book. Like it’s not based around philosophy. It’s not so high level that you can’t apply it. I wanted to actually make something as practical, a true guide, a playbook, right? And so what we did was
we looked back on our case studies. So we looked at the YouTube videos that are out there. You can go to Niche and Control TV on YouTube and look at all of our case study videos. And we started to understand the correlations between what people were struggling with and ways that we overcame it. And we really got to a place where from the case studies, we had the social proof. Then with the podcast, I started to use the agency leverage episodes.
to actually get other agency owners that are not a part of the program to start to describe some of the things that they wish they would have known in the beginning. And the interesting thing was is that even those podcast interviews, even if they’re not using the program but they’re talking about these tidbits of lessons learned, are actually already in our program. So it was really based around an understanding of validation where it wasn’t just based around
Jesse (07:18.13)
what was happening with our clients, but it’s actually something that is more widespread. And from that, that was interesting. That was a very interesting kind of like aha moment. And throughout this time, we had quite a few different kind of milestones, you know, milestones based around the manuscript going through multiple drafts and getting beta readers to be involved in the process, getting feedback on things like the cover design and going through different rounds of that.
connected with me on LinkedIn. You’ve seen my polls and stuff like that. And this is all getting to understand what resonates with people and what gets them to understand that this truly is a guide. It is a playbook. It’s not something that, you know, I just dreamt up and thought about. It’s something that’s been refined over 18 years from entrepreneurial ventures and then corporate America. And then more recently in the last four years working one-on-one with
70 marketing agency owners and then also validated through these podcast interviews. So it’s an interesting thing, but even throughout the validation, I had to overcome not only perfectionism, you know, it’s not going to be a perfect book. I could always, you know, sit there and continue to edit and do I have a period here or whatever? And I realized that I have to let go of perfectionism.
in this whole process and really lead by example. It’s the same things that I’ve been telling you guys on the podcast for a long time. And so I teach my clients as well, whether it’s in the mastermind or working one-on-one, is just to take imperfect action consistently and eventually you just progress. And so I had to overcome that. And I also had to understand and be liberated through delegation and also leadership and getting to a place where
There was a very direct shift that happened when we got out of kind of like strategy and got into execution, the moment that we set the due date of October 14th. And so I am super excited because at the time of this recording, it’s nine days, but it’ll be released eight days till the launch. And we’re really counting down. We’re getting excited about it. You’ll see a lot of videos about me talking about different pieces of it like…
Jesse (09:42.806)
you know, seven set process for finding the niche and the 11 set process of creating a delegation system and all these different things that have kind of been behind closed doors for a long period of time, I’m able to give to you. And so I’m very, very excited if you are able to make it on October 14th. It’s at 11 a.m. Central Time, so that’d be 9 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.
12 p.m. or noon Eastern Standard Time on Saturday the 14th. And is it going to be a half a million people as big as the Super Bowl? Not at all. But what it is going to be is an understanding of not only the journey, but there’s two key concepts that I’ll describe as kind of like a framework for you to understand how your business operates and how it can sustain and grow without you. And then also how you can
achieve what’s called self-actualization. And so the book launch event is going to be really cool. We have exclusive gifts for people on the book launch, both for non-agency owners, but more specifically for agency owners on that book launch that you won’t get if you just pre-order or, you know, buy the book afterwards. And for those that do pre-order that are not able to make it on the 14th, we do have a gift for you as well, which should be pretty cool. So.
If you are interested in the book launch, you can go to nichingcontrol.com slash book. And if you can’t make it on the 14th, but you still want to be a part of the pre-order and get that exclusive gift, you can go to nichingcontrol.com slash pre-order. So book launch is nichingcontrol.com slash book, and then pre-order is nichingcontrol.com slash pre-order. So now it’s time to get into the daily leverage. So where in your world, whether in your life or business,
Have you been hindered by perfectionism or self-doubt? Is it in your body? Or your personal health goal stalled by an unattainable quest for perfection? Or is it in your being, your spirituality or personal development being paused because you’re questioning your worth? For balance, are your relationships affected because you’re waiting for the perfect moment or feeling to act?
Jesse (11:58.718)
And for business, is the growth of your business hampered because you’re paralyzed by the need for everything to be perfect? Once you identify where perfectionism or self-doubt is anchoring you, ask yourself, what are you willing and able to do about it today? That is the end of the Daily Leverage. This is Jesse B. Gilmore. You’ve been listening to Leverage for Growth podcast. If you are enjoying these Daily Leverage and agency leverage episodes, make sure to subscribe on Apple or Spotify now.
